Certain images, such as those that display a Buddha image or the national flag, are prohibited on labels or trademarks in Burma. In addition, Burma follows Codex guidelines and the ASEAN Common Principles and Requirements for the Labeling of Prepackaged Foods. All foods must be labeled, and imported products must have labels affixed with the name and address of the local importer and/or distributor and the country of origin.

According to the Consumer Protection Committee’s Directive No. 2/2019, labels on the packaging of food products, household products, children’s products, telecommunication products, pharmaceuticals, diet products, cosmetics, commodity products, and products used for business activities must contain the following details in the Burmese language, jointly or combined with another language:

  • name, size, quantity, and net weight of the product
  • storage instructions
  • usage instructions
  • description of side effects
  • description of allergies; and
  • precautionary notices
