Clean EDGE Asia (Enhancing Development and Growth through Clean Energy)
The International Trade Administration (ITA) strengthens the competitiveness of U.S. industry, promotes trade and investment, and ensures fair trade through the rigorous enforcement of trade laws and agreements. What is Clean EDGE Asia? Clean EDGE Asia (Enhancing Development and Growth through Clean Energy) is a U.S. whole-of-government effort to grow sustainable and secure energy markets throughout the Indo-Pacific. Clean EDGE Asia builds on the work of Asia EDGE to align government and private sector resources to advance sustainable energy growth in the region.

The Indo-Pacific region is strategically and economically important. It accounts for two-thirds of all global trade. The Indo-Pacific region accounts for almost 30 percent of all U.S. exports, which have steadily increased over the last decade. In 2018, U.S. exports of goods and services to the region totaled more than $476 billion. The United States is the largest source of investment into the Indo-Pacific, and the cumulative value of U.S. foreign direct investment reached $940 billion last year—more than doubling since 2007. There is strong demand for U.S. energy sector exports across the region. According to the International Energy Agency, the Indo-Pacific will account for approximately 60 percent of the total global increase in primary energy demand by 2040. In developing countries alone, according to the Asian Development Bank this will require over $1 trillion in energy infrastructure investment annually.

ITA is organizing an executive-led Clean EDGE and Environmental Technologies Business Development Mission to India on March 4-8, 2024. This trade mission will be the second organized under the Clean EDGE (Enhancing Development and Economic Growth through Clean Energy) Asia initiative. Launched in December 2021, Clean EDGE Asia aims to support and accelerate Asia’s clean energy transition by harnessing the expertise and resources of the U.S. government, the private sector, international financial institutions, and like-minded governments.
