Trade Mission to Canada and Mexico and Business Opportunities in the America’s Conference - September 17-22, 2023

The United States Department of Commerce, International Trade Administration is organizing a trade mission to Canada and Mexico from September 17-22, 2023, that will include the Business Opportunities in the Americas Conference in Washington, DC on September 17-19, 2023.

Hosted in Washington, DC, the Business Opportunities in the Americas Conference will focus on region-specific sessions, market entry strategies, export compliance, legal, logistics, disaster resilience and recovery and trade financing resources. You will also be able to have prearranged one-on-one consultations with U.S. & Foreign Commercial Service (US & FCS) commercial officers and/or Department of State economic/commercial officers with expertise in commercial markets throughout the America’s region.

The combination of the Trade Americas conference and customized business-to-business matchmaking appointments in ONE or TWO cities with pre-screened potential buyers, agents, distributors, or joint venture partners will provide participants with strategies for expanding their business throughout Canada and/ or Mexico.

The United States, Canada, and Mexico share common interests in strengthening regional economic growth, prosperity and competitiveness, and understand that North American competitiveness underpins the future prosperity, and sustainability of all three countries.

Why Canada?

  • Canada is the single - largest U.S. export market, and in 2021 became the largest trading partner of the United States.  Canada naturally ranks first among the major markets sought after by U.S. small and rural businesses.
  • With a population of 38 million, Canadians spend more than 60 percent of their disposable income on U.S. consumer goods.

  • U.S.- Canada economies are extremely integrated with nearly $1.7 billion of goods and services flowing across the border daily.

  • Logistically, most of Canada’s commercial and industrial hubs are situated near the U.S. border.

  • In February 2021, the Roadmap for a Renewed U.S. - Canada Partnership established a blueprint for expanded cooperation between both countries in vital sectors, including promoting economic growth, pandemic recovery, combatting climate change, and addressing global issues.

Why Mexico?

  • Mexico is the second largest trading partner of the United States and the largest goods export market for U.S. companies.

  • Mexico’s manufacturing intensive export economy and nearshoring trends may provide opportunities for the U.S. suppliers.

  • Given Mexico’s large, diversified market, most U.S. products and services have ample opportunities.
  • Close cultural, social, and economic ties make Mexico a natural market to consider for first-time and expanding exporters.
