Under Secretary Lago to Visit Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan

WASHINGTON – From Oct. 17–21, Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Marisa Lago will travel to Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to hold meetings with government and private sector leaders that will focus on expanding bilateral trade and investment ties, and strengthening the business environment. Under Secretary Lago will also discuss how the U.S. Department of Commerce and the private sector can partner with Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to meet their development, sustainability, and economic diversification goals while creating opportunities for U.S. businesses and workers. 

In addition to holding bilateral meetings with government counterparts at several ministries, Under Secretary Lago will also engage with leading U.S. businesses active in both Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, meet with alumni of ITA’s Special American Business Internship Training (SABIT) program, and participate in events that focus on female economic empowerment and entrepreneurship. During her visit, she will also provide remarks to AmCham Uzbekistan to mark the group’s 25th anniversary, attend a breakfast briefing with the American Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce, and speak with U.S. Pavilion attendees at the International Airport Infrastructure Expo in Astana, Kazakhstan.
