Assistant Secretary Venkataraman to Travel to Colombia to Promote U.S. Trade and Advance Climate Priorities in Latin America

WASHINGTON - From December 4-6, 2023, Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Global Markets and Director General of the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service, Arun Venkataraman, will be in Barranquilla and Bogota, Colombia, to lead the U.S. delegation to the 31st Annual American Association of Port Authorities Latin American Convention of Ports and Expo (AAPA LATAM).

Assistant Secretary Venkataraman’s commercial diplomacy trip demonstrates the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to strengthening economic cooperation on issues like supply chain resilience, the climate crisis, digital infrastructure and inclusion, critical infrastructure in Colombia and across the Western Hemisphere. 

At the AAPA LATAM Conference in Barranquilla, the Assistant Secretary will participate in a panel discussion on regional port trends and highlight the benefits of international trade. In both Barranquilla and Bogota, he will have a series of engagements with senior Colombian government officials, as well as ports and logistics sectors leaders to promote the U.S.-Colombia commercial relationship and U.S. exports as part of ITA’s Go Green and Blue Initiative. He will also meet with representatives of the Diversity Chamber of Commerce to identify opportunities to collaborate through ITA’s Global Diversity Export Initiative and improve the business enabling environment for diverse U.S. and Colombian companies.
