Under Secretary Lago to Visit Central Virginia’s Newest U.S. Government-Incentivized Investments

WASHINGTON – Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Marisa Lago will travel to Richmond and Petersburg, Virginia, on Thursday, April 13 to participate in a groundbreaking ceremony for the LEGO Group and meet state and local entities to learn about efforts to increase foreign direct investment (FDI) and manufacturing in Virginia.

That morning, Under Secretary Lago will participate in a groundbreaking ceremony for the LEGO Group’s new $1 billion, carbon-neutral run factory in Chesterfield County where she will provide brief remarks highlighting the importance of international trade and the federal government’s work to incentivize FDI in Virginia in order to create jobs and increase economic development.

In Petersburg, Under Secretary Lago will tour the newly constructed Civica Rx facility, a non-profit generic drug company that will manufacture affordable essential medicines and is a member of the Alliance for Building Better Medicine which was awarded a $52.9 million Build Back Better Regional Challenge grant by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration in the fall of 2022.

Lago will then visit the Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing, a non-profit economic development project and applied research center, and participate in a roundtable discussion with the Alliance for Building Better Medicine to learn about joint efforts to create a reliable supply of affordable, high-quality essential medicines and grow the regional economy in historically distressed communities.

Lastly, Under Secretary Lago will tour the Virginia Talent Accelerator Experience Center in Richmond and meet with representatives of the Virginia Economic Development Partnership to learn about the Virginia Talent Accelerator Program and efforts to implement job-specific recruitment and training services for companies.
