Turkmenistan has been a member of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) since 1991, but it is not a member of the 1996 WIPO Copyright Treaty, the 1996 WIPO Performances and Phonograms Treaty, or the 2000 Patent Law Treaty. In August 2020, however, Turkmenistan acceded to the 1961 WIPO Rome Convention for the Protection of Performers, Producers of Phonograms, and Broadcasting Organizations.
