Belize - Country Commercial Guide
Import Requirements and Documentation
Last published date:

All importers are required to submit original commercial invoices to the Customs and Excise Department (https://www.customs.gov.bz/) at the point of importation. Customs duties and taxes are collected based on the transaction value, which is derived from the value stated on the invoice (once authenticated), receipt, or other proof of purchase.

The Belize Agricultural Health Authority (BAHA) is a statutory body governed by the Ministry of Agriculture and is responsible for issuing sanitary and phyto-sanitary certificates for exports. Import permits from BAHA are required for certain foodstuffs, live animals, plant and plant materials, and veterinary vaccines. BAHA also requires phyto-sanitary and zoo-sanitary certificates, health-risk analysis documentation, and certificates of origin for animals and certain plant materials.
