Lome hosts Africa’s fifth busiest port according to Lloyd’s List 2025 rankings and the government is investing heavily to modernize infrastructure and strengthen the country’s role as a trade and travel gateway. Membership in ECOWAS and WAEMU enhances its appeal as a regional transit point.
The Port of Lome remains the centerpiece of Togo’s logistics network. To relieve congestion, the Adetikope Industrial Platform (PIA) has been expanded to also operate a dry port. It provides container storage, freight vehicle parking, and transshipment services, supporting smoother cargo flows. PIA also facilitates trade with landlocked Sahelian countries.
To support the growth of Lome airport, planned upgrades aim to create a premium class terminal, improve passenger processing, and strengthen safety and security standards, creating new opportunities for U.S. firms in aviation services and airport technologies.
Digitalization is a priority for modernizing port and road operations.
