Agriculture is the backbone of Togo’s economy, contributing approximately 40 percent of GDP. The sector is mostly subsistence based and has not yet benefitted from commercial-scale production. Key crops include cocoa, coffee, and cotton; cashew and soybean production is growing. The food processing industry is underdeveloped, which limits value addition, but creates opportunities for investment.
The government is actively modernizing agriculture through programs that promote mechanization, improve productivity, and enhance food security. These initiatives create opportunities for technology-driven and equipment-focused investments.
Togo’s strategic location and efficient port operations at Lome make it a transit hub for agricultural goods heading to Benin, Ghana, and the Sahel, offering additional logistics and trade opportunities for companies.
