Foreign firms interested in establishing operations in Paraguay should hire experienced local attorneys and/or representatives and consider joint ventures with Paraguayan companies to assist them in operating in Paraguay.

The selection of an appropriate agent/distributor may be a determining factor in success or failure. Prior to entering into any legal agreement with a local distributor, foreign firms should become familiar with Paraguayan Law 194, which requires foreign companies demonstrate “just cause” to terminate, modify, or not renew contracts with Paraguayan distributors.
