WUHAN China CLEAN ENERGY MARKET

In September 2021, Wuhan’s municipal government issued guidelines reaffirming its goal to peak Wuhan’s carbon emissions by 2022.

In the guidelines, the city government urges four energy-intensive industries (steel, petrochemicals, power generation, and cements) to electrify their equipment or adopt energy-efficient power equipment. All other industries are required to achieve zero-carbon production by 2025. The guidelines are expected to present opportunities for U.S. clean power products and solutions that can improve energy efficiency. LNG, wind, solar, biofuel, geothermal, and hydrogen power are all areas of opportunity.

Wuhan has a population of over 11 million people. In 2020, GDP was around $240 billion.  Wuhan is part of China’s heavy industry base.  Coal accounts for 35% of Wuhan’s energy consumption. The target is to raise the non-fossil energy consumption share to 20% by 2025.
