Taiwan Dietary Supplements Market

In Taiwan, dietary supplement sales have dramatically increased during and beyond the COVID-19 pandemic, with healthy living affixed at the forefront of public consciousness. According to the Taiwan Food Industry Research and Development Institute, the market size has grown 5.6% between 2020 and 2021, and sector revenue reached U.S. $5.3 billion in 2021.

The most popular supplements among Taiwan consumers include glucosamine, multivitamins and minerals, calcium, fish oil, probiotics, and vitamin B complex.

The average tariff rate for dietary supplements in the tablet or capsule forms is 30 percent. U.S. dietary supplements are viewed as high-quality in the Taiwan market, but the competition is intensifying as demand grows.  Many top global brands have already entered the Taiwan market, competing with existing domestic brands.

For new-to-market U.S. brands to succeed in Taiwan, they should highlight quality bonafides, brandish strong customer testimonials, cost effectiveness or other distinguishing characteristics to compete in this crowded and contested market.
