Saudi Arabia Tourism Red Sea Authority New regulations for maritime tourist activities

These regulations will come into force after 90 days. The regulations are part of SRSA’s efforts to achieve economic development and environmental sustainability, as well as to promote coastal tourism in the country. These rules help regulate the operation of cruise ships and yachts and the issuance of licenses and permits to carry out its navigational activities, and to enable tourism and marine recreational activities.

The seven regulations are:
•    Private Yachts Visiting Regulation
•    Chartering Large Yacht Regulation
•    Tourist Navigational Agent Regulation
•    Cruise Ship Regulation
•    Marina Design and Operation Regulation
•    Marina Tourism Operator Regulation
•    Marine Coastal Tourism Vessel Classification Regulation


Here are some of the key points of the regulations:
•    All yachts and other vessels must be registered with the SRSA.
•    All vessels must carry a valid safety certificate.
•    All crew members must be qualified to operate the vessel and to provide safety and medical assistance.
•    Tourist navigational agents must be licensed by the SRSA.
•    Marinas must be designed and operated in a way that minimizes the risk of accidents and environmental damage.


The regulations are comprehensive and cover all aspects of tourism in the Red Sea region. The authority stated that the regulations are part of its vision to develop the Red Sea region as a world-class tourism destination that offers diverse and sustainable experiences for visitors. The authority added that it welcomes yachts and cruise ships that comply with the regulations and contribute to the economic and social development of the region.
