Mozambique Energy - Sasol

Sasol Petroleum (a South African company) has been operating onshore natural gas blocks in the southern Mozambican province of Inhambane since 2006. Most of this natural gas is piped to South Africa and the rest to the domestic market for power generation and industry.

In 2021, Sasol Petroleum made the Final Investment Decision (FID) for its Production Sharing Agreement (PSA) development of gas blocks. The project is valued at USD755 million.

The plan of development will enable the supply of natural gas to the 450MW Central Térmica de Temane Power Plant, which is also under development. Another key objective of development is to enable the production of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for domestic consumption. This requires the construction of a new light oil, gas and LPG processing facility with capacity for 30,000 tons of LPG per annum and 4,000 barrels of oil per day.

Sasol has begun publishing Expressions of Interest (EoI) for equipment and services. Interested U.S. suppliers are advised to partner with Mozambican companies to be in line with local content procurement preferences.
