Mexico Import Certification Process

On March 17, 2025, the Mexican government announced it will simplify its procedures to obtain Import Certificates from SENASICA, Mexico’s National Service for Agrifood Health, Safety, and Quality.  This will make trading agro-food products easier and faster.

This Agency ensures that agricultural, livestock, and some consumer goods entering Mexico meet health and safety standards to prevent pests and diseases. U.S. exporters must comply with SENASICA’s rules to avoid border delays, costly rejections, and ensure market access in Mexico.

Previously, importers had to complete separate procedures for each product type (vegetables, animals, or aquatic products), which was complicated and time-consuming. Now, these processes are combined into a single procedure with one application (homoclave SENASICA 03-012), all done online through the Ventanilla Digital/ Single Window for Foreign Trade.

This change aims to make importing more effective, efficient, and affordable, benefiting everyone involved in the supply chain of these potentially sensitive products of concern to the Mexican government.

It is important to note that this change will take place once it is published in the Official Gazette (DOF), with authorities finalizing the details within the next 180 business days.
