China Construction Green Building Roofing Materials
In July 2024, the Shanghai Housing and Urban-Rural Development Committee increased its building energy-saving standards beyond national levels, introducing the Residential Building Energy Saving Design Standard (DG/TJ08-205-2024), which aims to achieve 75 percent reduction in energy use. The standard emphasizes dual control of energy consumption and carbon emissions, creating demand for low-carbon and energy-efficient materials and systems, such as green roofs, heat-reflective roofs, and photovoltaic integrated roofing solutions.
To achieve its climate goals of lowering CO2 emissions, China has set a goal of reaching carbon peaking by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060. China had already mandated in its “14th Five-Year Plan for Building Energy Conservation and Green Building Development” that all new urban buildings meet green standards by 2025. To this end, provincial governments in Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Zhejiang and Jiangsu have been implementing incentives and subsidies for sustainable building development. As a result, according to the Implementation Plan for High-quality Development of Green Building Materials Industry released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China’s green building materials market is projected to grow from USD 28 billion in 2023 to USD 38 billion by 2025, presenting potential market opportunities.
