Argentina Airport Infrastructure

In 2022, the Ministry of Transportation reactivated the “Plan to Modernize Air Transportation“ (Plan de Modernización del Transporte Aéreo) to upgrade many airports in Argentina to improve air connectivity to the provinces.  The government is upgrading buildings, jetways, runways, aircraft parking spaces, and cargo terminals in nine airports throughout the country.  They are also upgrading control towers with the latest technology.  You may find detailed information (in Spanish) and contact us for an explanation of the opportunities in English.

Aeroparque Jorge Newbery, the airport in the city of Buenos Aires, is going through a large expansion that will be built in different stages.  The South Platform area has been renewed which involved building a new runway and implementing an Instrument Landing System (ILS) allowing the airport to receive an upgrade to the operational category which allows for CAT II landings.  These improvements increase operational safety in low visibility conditions for international flights.

Aeropuertos Argentinos 2000 is in the process of issuing tenders to upgrade the North Platform area.  The construction of the North Platform area includes lighting the new platform, expanding the international terminal (which would imply the partial demolition of the current cargo terminal), the expansion of the coastal landfill of the River Plate, and the repositioning of Costanera Avenue.  As a whole, the tenders are valued at AR$1,696,897,894.90 (US$12,475,355.76).  Construction is planned to begin in January 2023.  While it is anticipated that most of the prime contractors will be Argentine companies, U.S. companies should consider developing partnerships to provide their goods and services to the local companies.

U.S. companies interested in providing goods and services to improve Argentina’s aviation infrastructure should contact the U.S. Commercial Service for more information.  For more information on the tenders, please contact Diana.Brandon@trade.gov.
