Algeria Healthcare New Medical Device Regulation

A new government regulation (e.g., Executive Decree 23-101) released in March 2023 eases the sale of medical devices in Algeria. The decree authorizes medical devices already in the market to continue being sold without registration with the Algerian National Agency of Pharmaceutical Products (ANPP). The medical devices, though, must be registered with ANPP by November 2024.

American medical device exporters whose products are already in Algeria have until November 2024 to register those products with the ANPP, following regulations already in place. This regulatory change creates a short window of opportunity for U.S. brands already sold in Algeria to increase their market share.
