U.S. Healthcare Mission to Israel

Opportunities For American Healthcare Companies in Israel

The Israeli Government and healthcare system are investing in innovative digital health solutions and medical devices, with funding coming from both the public and private sectors. The Israeli Ministry of Health has outlined both short-term and long-term plans to develop and expand the country’s health technology infrastructure. These plans have an overarching focus on promoting sustainable and digital health tools, and thus create room for American companies to expand their services to one of the most promising healthcare markets in the world today.

Israel’s healthcare system is very advanced by international standards

Israeli healthcare facilities are modern and receptive to innovative technologies and procedures. Israel is a global technology research and development center. Its strength in this sector stems from inter-disciplinary capabilities, which bring together medicine,
clinical expertise, materials science, electronics, software expertise and engineering know-how. As a result of the robust local ecosystem, many multinational companies establish research & development centers in Israel, that generate an annual revenue of billions of dollars.

Medical Device Opportunities

Medical devices have traditionally been the leading healthcare sub-sector in Israel, both for local developers and for foreign exporters, and it accounts for approximately half of the total healthcare industry market share. The medical devices market size is
over $1.6 billion, with a compound annual growth rate of about 2%. Aligning with global trends, medical devices in Israel are developing towards digital innovation, integrated IT capabilities for better accuracy, and solutions to improve physician-patient interface.

Digital Health Opportunities

Israel has an excellent digital health tech base and is a world leader in mobile and e-health implementations. The Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center is the largest teaching hospital in Israel, and has implemented leading digital health solutions in its facilities, with an objective of streamlining care and patients experiences. Clalit Healthcare Services is Israel’s largest health maintenance organization (HMO), and has put out an open call for tech companies and startups developing products that align with their goal to provide state-of-the-art service to their patients. This includes remote treatment, remote diagnostics, and monitoring and other lab services from patients’ homes.
