We have invited speakers from the Hong Kong Government along with leading companies to share industry insights. In addition, we have also invited two American EdTech companies to share their experiences and success stories on launching their products in Hong Kong. Following the webinar, we will be hosting a Pitchfest on September 14 to introduce U.S. EdTech companies to local companies, K12 schools and higher learning institutions. Successful Fintech Networking Reception The HK Commercial Service Fintech team recently hosted a fintech networking reception with AMCHAM Hong Kong at their newly opened office in Central. The goal of the event was to bring together senior leaders at U.S. based companies with local financial institutions and regulators to discuss latest industry trends and market challenges. The event was very well-received, and the attendees expressed interest for more regular meetups. In view of the feedback, the team is looking at organizing a roundtable event September for participants to discuss industry trends and updates on new regulations. Franchising News: U.S. health and fitness brands betting big on Hong Kong With Hong Kong gradually normalizing its Covid-19 protocols, the fitness industry is beginning to rebound as two U.S.-based fitness franchises, Anytime Fitness and Snap Fitness recently announced plans grow their presence in Hong Kong. The fitness industry in Hong Kong, with annual revenues of USD$ 500 million, went through a tumultuous period between 2020-2022 when fitness centers succumbed to stringent COVID social distancing measures. These two American firms are eager to grab market share by offering greater flexibility to members. Anytime Fitness currently has 3 locations and plans to open 100 new centers in the next 3-5 years. Snap Fitness has 12 and is looking to double the number by next year. The Commercial Service Team expects more U.S. fitness companies to consider Hong Kong for their international growth plans to take advantage of its status as a gateway for China. Select USA: Tech Start-Up Breakfast Briefing Held The SelectUSA Hong Kong team recently organized a breakfast briefing and networking session at the American Club for early-stage and tech startup companies who are considering expanding into the U.S. market. Malissa Eaddy, the International Investment Specialist for SelectUSA covered key points on the SelectUSA Investment Summit and its focus on the current tech landscape along with the U.S. Government’s efforts to support international start-ups. Ken Law, the founder of Motherapp, a Hong Kong based company specializing in smart mobile app development and AI application solutions shared his experience on they successfully expanded into the U.S. Finally, Kevin Brisebois, the Director of Partnerships & Innovation at Brinc, a venture capital and accelerator firm offered best practices on helping start-ups get off the ground.
