Helping U.S. Programs Compete Globally

Based in Marietta, GA, the American Association of Intensive English Programs (EnglishUSA), represents the interests of more than 230 accredited post-secondary intensive English language programs (IEPs) and pathway programs located in 40 states and D.C. EnglishUSA was established in 1986 and operates as a not-for-profit 501(c)(6) educational organization/trade association with the mission to represent and support English language programs in the United States. EnglishUSA’s diverse constituency, consisting of university and college-governed programs, independent for profit and non-profit organizations, and multi-site companies, offers English language programming to international students from all over the world.

Citizens of other countries abroad who wish to come to the United States for higher education need to certify English language proficiency to get acceptance and a visa. IEPs are an effective way to accomplish this. EnglishUSA represents U.S.-based IEP providers. They compete with English instruction providers based abroad. With ITA’s support, EnglishUSA is strengthening the position of U.S. IEPs in the global market. EnglishUSA is using strategic initiatives like enhanced data collection and regional promotion to foster awareness and collaboration to help U.S. IEPs better compete globally.

  3. Engage in international forums to raise awareness of need for clean-water infrastructure and standards in the developing world.  

Removing Barriers to Increase the Flow of Plumbing Product Exports

Based in Ontario, CA, IAPMO is a global product certification agency and industry-leader in code and standards development. IAPMO works to “Increase the Flow” of plumbing exports to Indonesia and the Philippines by removing onerous export requirements and technical barriers to trade currently in place. IAPMO focuses on conformity assessment processes related to plastic pipes in Indonesia and sanitaryware in the Philippines. By focusing on conformity assessment requirements to include U.S. laboratories, this project will increase the competitiveness of U.S. products and create or sustain U.S. jobs. The “Increase the Flow” project is part of a multi-stage, multiyear strategy by IAPMO to align market access requirements for the plumbing industry across Southeast Asia and to build demand for future standards and infrastructure development in other developing countries.

Export Promotion Center for Greater Pearl River Delta

Based in Los Angeles, CA, the Innovation Center for Energy and Transportation (iCET), a professional think tank in the areas of clean transportation, energy innovation, climate policy and international cleantech cooperation, is an independent non-profit organization with over a dozen of researchers including staff in its Asia Regional Office in Beijing China.

Cleantech is one area where industry and government officials alike continue to see possibilities for U.S.-China trade. iCET aggressively promotes U.S. decarbonization products and services by establishing a US Climate Tech Export Promotion Center in the Pearl River Delta (Greater Bay Area, or “GBA”), providing market updates and analysis, organizing trade missions, IP trainings, and match-making activities focused on: green building, clean transportation, renewable energy, industrial energy efficiency, and energy storage. iCET is leading four trade delegations with 70+ U.S. small- and medium-size enterprises to the GBA and other regions in China, organizing 300+ business-to-business matchmaking meetings, and generating over $80 million in new sales.

On-line Scrap Specification Resources

Based in Washington, D.C., the Recycled Materials Association (ReMA), formerly the Institute for Scrap Recycling, serves the recycling industry and users of recycled materials by promoting safe, environmentally responsible, and economically sustainable recycling through advocacy, networking and education. ReMA is updating its specifications, creating new interactive, on-line scrap specification resources, and educating stakeholders about industry standards and best practices. ReMA’s Scrap Specifications Circular (www.isri.org/specs), serves both as broad guidelines and as a starting point in discussions between scrap buyers and sellers domestically and globally. ReMA is undertaking a wholesale review of the Specifications to create a harmonization of the terminology used across all commodities and to convert the Circular to a dynamic, searchable, interactive, and user-friendly online resource. Affirming the quality of scrap that is traded benefits many industries in multiple regions globally. As ReMA educates more players in the industry worldwide, the Specifications will make it easier to include recycled scrap in supply chains in the United States and around the world.

Global Business Navigator Chatbot Beta

Welcome to the Global Business Navigator, an artificial intelligence (AI) Chatbot from the International Trade Administration (ITA). This tool, currently in beta version testing, is designed to provide general information on the exporting process and the resources available to assist new and experienced U.S. exporters. The Chatbot, developed using Microsoft’s Azure AI services, is trained on ITA’s export-related content and aims to quickly get users the information they need. The Chatbot is intended to make the benefits of exporting more accessible by understanding non-expert language, idiomatic expressions, and foreign languages.

Limitations

As a beta product, the Chatbot is currently being tested and its responses may occasionally produce inaccurate or incomplete information. The Chatbot is trained to decline out of scope or inappropriate requests. The Chatbot’s knowledge is limited to the public information on the Export Solutions web pages of Trade.gov, which covers a wide range of topics on exporting. While it cannot provide responses specific to a company’s product or a specific foreign market, its reference pages will guide you to other relevant government resources and market research. Always double-check the Chatbot’s responses using the provided references or by visiting the Export Solutions web pages on Trade.gov. Do not use its responses as legal or professional advice. Inaccurate advice from the Chatbot would not be a defense to violating any export rules or regulations.

Privacy

The Chatbot does not collect information about users and does not use the contents of users’ chat history to learn new information. All feedback is anonymous. Please do not enter personally identifiable information (PII), sensitive, or proprietary information into the Chatbot. Your conversations will not be connected to other interactions or accounts with ITA. Conversations with the Chatbot may be reviewed to help ITA improve the tool and address harmful, illegal, or otherwise inappropriate questions.

Translation

The Chatbot supports a wide range of languages. Because the Chatbot is trained in English and responses are translated, you should verify the translation. For example, the Chatbot may have difficulty with acronyms, abbreviations, and nuances in a language other than English.
