Brazil Construction Sector Recycled Resins
Brazil’s construction sector is emerging as a leading user of post-consumer recycled (PCR) resins, creating opportunities for U.S. suppliers of high-performance recycled resins, additives, processing equipment, and recycling technologies.
Brazil’s construction industry consumed approximately 130,000 tons of post-consumer recycled resins in 2024, according to industry data. Demand is concentrated in applications such as corrugated hoses, pipes, fittings, geotextiles, sandbags, tile adhesive packaging, drainage materials, and other construction inputs. High-density polyethylene (HDPE) accounted for more than 50,000 tons used in corrugated hoses, pipes, and fittings, while PET-based recycled resins were used in geotextiles and other permeable materials, totaling more than 29,000 tons. Linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), commonly used in sandbags and construction-material packaging, accounted for roughly 19,000 tons.
Brazil’s broader plastic recycling market is expanding, but domestic recycling infrastructure remains uneven. Brazil recycled approximately 410,000 tons of PET packaging in 2024, reflecting continued growth in the country’s recycling industry. At the same time, industry sources cite quality, consistency, traceability, and mechanical performance as ongoing challenges for some locally sourced PCR materials.
This creates a market opening for U.S. suppliers of engineered, high-performance PCR resins and technologies that help Brazilian manufacturers meet sustainability requirements without sacrificing product performance. U.S. firms offering recycled resins with performance characteristics comparable to virgin materials, along with resin compatibilizers, additives, quality-control systems, sorting technologies, washing and pelletizing equipment, and chemical recycling solutions may find opportunities among Brazilian manufacturers serving the construction, infrastructure, packaging, and geosynthetics segments.
New and evolving reverse-logistics and recycled-content requirements are expected to strengthen demand for recycled materials and recycling infrastructure in Brazil. U.S. suppliers with proven technologies that improve post-consumer recycled (PCR) quality, consistency, and certification may be well positioned as Brazilian manufacturers seek higher-value recycled inputs for construction-sector applications.
