March 2025 International Air Passenger Travel to and from the United States
International Air Passenger Enplanements To and From the United States Down 0.5 percent Year Over Year in March 2025
Data recently released by the National Travel and Tourism Office (NTTO) show that in March 2025:
(Note: Easter was on March 31, 2024 and is on April 20, 2025, impacting March 2024 and March 2025 comparisons.)
U.S.-international air traffic passenger enplanements1 totaled:
- 22.546 million in March 2025, down 0.5 percent compared to March 2024, with enplanements reaching 105.7 percent of pre-pandemic March 2019 volume.
Originating Non-Stop Air Travel in March 2025
- Non-U.S. citizen air passenger arrivals to the United States from foreign countries totaled:
- 4.541 million in March 2025, down 9.7 percent compared to March 2024.
- This represents 87.3 percent of pre-pandemic March 2019 volume.
On a related note, overseas visitor arrivals2 totaled 2.391 million in March 2025, which reached 82.9 percent of pre-pandemic March 2019 volume, down from 84.5 percent in February 2025. (See March I-94 Advance Release)
- U.S. citizen air passenger departures from the United States to foreign countries totaled:
- 6.557 million in March 2025, up 1.6 percent from March 2024.
- This exceeded March 2019 volume by 21.9 percent.
World Region Highlights in March 2025 (APIS/I-92 arrivals + departures)
- Total air passenger travel (arrivals and departures) between the United States and other countries were led by Mexico (3.975 million), Canada (2.8 million), the United Kingdom (1.478 million), the Dominican Republic (997,000), and Japan (952,000).
- International regional air travel to/from the United States:
- Europe totaled 5.244 million passengers, down 1.2 percent over March 2024, and down (0.4 percent) compared to March 2019.
- (U.S citizen departures were up 17.2 percent compared to March 2019, while European citizen arrivals were down 17.2 percent.)

- South/Central America/Caribbean totaled 6.099 million, down 0.6 percent over March 2024, and up 14 percent compared to March 2019.
- Asia totaled 2.684 million passengers, up 6.5 percent over March 2024, but down (13.9 percent) compared to March 2019.
- (Asian citizen arrivals to the U.S. were down 33.3 percent compared to March 2019, and U.S. citizen departures were up 15.1 percent.)

- Top U.S. ports serving international locations were New York (JFK) 2.675 million, Miami (MIA) 2.228 million, Los Angeles (LAX) 1.942 million, Atlanta (ATL) 1.311 million, and San Francisco (SFO) 1.255 million.
- Top foreign serving U.S. locations were London Heathrow (LHR) 1.333 million, Cancun (CUN) 1.306 million, Toronto (YYZ) 1.150 million, Mexico City (MEX) 713,000, and Paris (CDG) 628,000.
- Europe totaled 5.244 million passengers, down 1.2 percent over March 2024, and down (0.4 percent) compared to March 2019.

The data has been collected from the Department of Homeland Security - Customs and Border Protection’s Advance Passenger Information System (APIS) since July 2010. The APIS based “I-92” system provides air traffic data on the following parameters: number of passengers, by country, airport, scheduled or chartered, U.S. Flag, foreign flag, citizens and non-citizens.
