April 2025 Total International Travel Volume to and from the United States

In April 2025, international visitor arrivals to the United States totaled 5,957,985, an increase of 1.3 percent from April 2024

 

Outbound travel departures from the United States by U.S. citizens totaled 8,564,586 in April 2025, an increase of 5.9 percent from April 2024

 

Data recently released by the National Travel and Tourism Office show that in April 2025*:

*Note: Easter was on March 31st in 2024 and on April 20th in 2025, impacting April 2024 and April 2025 comparisons.

International Arrivals to the United States

  • Total non-U.S. resident international visitor volume to the United States of 5,957,985, increased 1.3 percent compared to April 2024, representing 84.6 percent of the pre-COVID total visitor volume reported for April 2019.
     
  • Overseas visitor volume to the United States of 3,047,094 increased 8 percent from April 2024.
     
  • The largest number of international visitor arrivals was from Mexico (1,494,051), Canada (1,416,840), the United Kingdom (403,974), Germany (193,226), and France (182,700). Combined, these top 5 source markets accounted for 61.9 percent of total international arrivals.
     
  • The top 5 overseas tourism arrivals for April were the United Kingdom (356,958), Germany (169,705), France (166,591), Brazil (136,433), and India (130,964).
     
  • The top 5 overseas business arrivals for April were the United Kingdom (45,753), India (39,400), Japan (23,490), Germany (22,866), and South Korea (17,283).
     
  • The top 5 overseas student arrivals for April were China (7,613), India (6,171), South Korea (1,976), Brazil (1,501), and the United Kingdom (1,263).
     

International Departures from the United States

  • Total U.S. citizen international visitor departures from the United States of 8,564,586 increased 5.9 percent compared to April 2024, representing 112.8 percent of total departures in pre-pandemic April 2019.
     
  • The year-to-date (YTD) market share for North America (Mexico & Canada) was 50.5 percent and overseas was 49.5 percent.
     
  • Mexico recorded the largest outbound visitor volume of 3,322,925 (38.8 percent of total departures for April). Canada recorded a year-over-year (YOY) decrease of 11.1 percent.
     
  • Combined YTD, Mexico (13,763,175) and the Caribbean (4,033,703) accounted for 54.4 percent of total U.S. citizen international visitor departures.
     
  • Europe was the second largest market for outbound U.S. visitors with 1,744,890 departures. This accounted for 20.4 percent of all departures in April. Outbound visitation to Europe in April 2025 increased 5.2 percent compared to April 2024.

 

 

The ADIS/I-94 Visitor Arrivals Program, in cooperation with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)/U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), provides a count of visitor arrivals (Overseas+Canada+Mexico) to the United States (with stays of 1-night or more and visiting under certain visa types) and is used to calculate U.S. travel and tourism exports. The APIS/I-92 Program provides information on non-stop international air traffic between the United States and other countries. The data has been collected from the Department of Homeland Security - Customs and Border Protection’s Advance Passenger Information System (APIS) since July 2010. The APIS based “I-92” system provides air traffic data on the following parameters: number of passengers, by country, airport, scheduled or chartered, U.S. Flag, foreign flag, citizens and non-citizens.
