The U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. Mission to the EU are seeking 20 U.S. companies to participate in a 60-minute roundtable session with senior experts from the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). The session will allow for an open exchange of views and a constructive dialogue around specific problems faced by U.S. companies when submitting complex registration dossiers which contain a large number of notifications to the EU’s new Substances of Concern in Products (SCIP) database.

SCIP registration requirements apply to companies making any product – electrical or non-electrical – that contains any of the approximately 200 Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs) cited in the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) regulation will have to register this product with the SCIP database. Based on SCIP requirements:

  • Companies might need to show a SCIP ID number to do business in the EU.
  • U.S. companies with branch offices in Europe will have to register products directly into the SCIP database.
  • U.S. exporters will be asked by their European customers for product information so the European buyer can meet SCIP database requirements.

To facilitate the roundtable format, we ask that companies limit participation to one representative. Companies wishing to attend will have to fulfil the below requirements and will be selected on a first-come, first-serve basis. Participation is free of charge for companies that are eligible based on these requirements:

  • Participants must be U.S. domiciled company or must have at least 51% U.S. content for exports to the EU.
  • Participants’ exports or the final product must fall under the purview of SCIP database requirements.
  • Participants must have submitted a significant number of notifications to the SCIP database (please quantify number of notifications submitted).
  • Participants with experience in submitting oversized dossiers (1000+ notifications in one dossier) will be given priority. When registering your interest, please quantify number of notifications submitted and indicate number of oversized dossiers submitted.

Please note that this session will follow two webinars for companies familiarizing themselves with SCIP and companies with some experience with the SCIP database. Both sessions will feature presentations by ECHA as well as Q+A sessions. U.S. companies can register for those larger format webinars free of charge.

Global Business Navigator Chatbot Beta

Welcome to the Global Business Navigator, an artificial intelligence (AI) Chatbot from the International Trade Administration (ITA). This tool, currently in beta version testing, is designed to provide general information on the exporting process and the resources available to assist new and experienced U.S. exporters. The Chatbot, developed using Microsoft’s Azure AI services, is trained on ITA’s export-related content and aims to quickly get users the information they need. The Chatbot is intended to make the benefits of exporting more accessible by understanding non-expert language, idiomatic expressions, and foreign languages.

Limitations

As a beta product, the Chatbot is currently being tested and its responses may occasionally produce inaccurate or incomplete information. The Chatbot is trained to decline out of scope or inappropriate requests. The Chatbot’s knowledge is limited to the public information on the Export Solutions web pages of Trade.gov, which covers a wide range of topics on exporting. While it cannot provide responses specific to a company’s product or a specific foreign market, its reference pages will guide you to other relevant government resources and market research. Always double-check the Chatbot’s responses using the provided references or by visiting the Export Solutions web pages on Trade.gov. Do not use its responses as legal or professional advice. Inaccurate advice from the Chatbot would not be a defense to violating any export rules or regulations.

Privacy

The Chatbot does not collect information about users and does not use the contents of users’ chat history to learn new information. All feedback is anonymous. Please do not enter personally identifiable information (PII), sensitive, or proprietary information into the Chatbot. Your conversations will not be connected to other interactions or accounts with ITA. Conversations with the Chatbot may be reviewed to help ITA improve the tool and address harmful, illegal, or otherwise inappropriate questions.

Translation

The Chatbot supports a wide range of languages. Because the Chatbot is trained in English and responses are translated, you should verify the translation. For example, the Chatbot may have difficulty with acronyms, abbreviations, and nuances in a language other than English.
