About Internship

The Commercial Service Section offers 2–3 part-time unpaid internship positions for university students every six months. The duration of the internship is 6 months. If both parties agree, extension is possible. At the end of the internship, the intern is presented with a letter of recommendation.

The Commercial Section of the U.S. Embassy is a part of Department of Commerce´s International Trade Administration established to assist U.S. companies in doing business in the Czech Republic; it protects U.S. business interests and through variety of projects and events it promotes the export of U.S. goods and services in the Czech Republic.

Suitable student candidates are welcome to join the Embassy team and work on all relevant projects focused on business under the supervision of the American Commercial Service Officer, the Commercial Assistant and the Czech industry specialists.

 

Intern Duties

The intern’s work assignments provide exposure to our full range of activities and services. Every attempt is made to give hands-on experience where appropriate.

Intern assignments may include:

  • Collecting and analyzing information for use in market research reports
  • Telephoning and emailing prospective Czech business partners
  • Assisting our staff in the preparation of trade events and trade missions
  • Assisting with our matchmaking services that help U.S. companies find partners and distributors in the Czech Republic
  • Doing interpretation work for U.S. companies
  • Occasional event management and some clerical/administrative duties.

 

Requirements

  • Enrolled university student for the duration of internship.
  • Available for minimum of 6 months.
  • Commitment to work 15-20 hours per week with a flexible schedule (depending on class schedule, half days or full days – Embassy working hours are 8 a.m. – 4.30 p.m., Monday – Friday). Occasional evening hours are required for receptions and other events. Working hours may need to be adjusted or cut back during school exams.
  • Excellent language, presentation and communication skills (Czech and English, both spoken and written)
  • Strong background in international business or economics.
  • Good interpersonal and computer skills, flexibility and a positive attitude.

All acceptances are subject to security clearance prior to beginning work at the Embassy!

Global Business Navigator Chatbot Beta

Welcome to the Global Business Navigator, an artificial intelligence (AI) Chatbot from the International Trade Administration (ITA). This tool, currently in beta version testing, is designed to provide general information on the exporting process and the resources available to assist new and experienced U.S. exporters. The Chatbot, developed using Microsoft’s Azure AI services, is trained on ITA’s export-related content and aims to quickly get users the information they need. The Chatbot is intended to make the benefits of exporting more accessible by understanding non-expert language, idiomatic expressions, and foreign languages.

Limitations

As a beta product, the Chatbot is currently being tested and its responses may occasionally produce inaccurate or incomplete information. The Chatbot is trained to decline out of scope or inappropriate requests. The Chatbot’s knowledge is limited to the public information on the Export Solutions web pages of Trade.gov, which covers a wide range of topics on exporting. While it cannot provide responses specific to a company’s product or a specific foreign market, its reference pages will guide you to other relevant government resources and market research. Always double-check the Chatbot’s responses using the provided references or by visiting the Export Solutions web pages on Trade.gov. Do not use its responses as legal or professional advice. Inaccurate advice from the Chatbot would not be a defense to violating any export rules or regulations.

Privacy

The Chatbot does not collect information about users and does not use the contents of users’ chat history to learn new information. All feedback is anonymous. Please do not enter personally identifiable information (PII), sensitive, or proprietary information into the Chatbot. Your conversations will not be connected to other interactions or accounts with ITA. Conversations with the Chatbot may be reviewed to help ITA improve the tool and address harmful, illegal, or otherwise inappropriate questions.

Translation

The Chatbot supports a wide range of languages. Because the Chatbot is trained in English and responses are translated, you should verify the translation. For example, the Chatbot may have difficulty with acronyms, abbreviations, and nuances in a language other than English.
