The U.S. Commercial Service in Italy offers internship opportunities throughout the year at the American Consulate General in Milan and at the American Embassy in Rome.
What will you be doing?
The U.S. Commercial Service assists U.S. companies entering the Italian market and helps Italian firms in their efforts to profit from their alliances with American companies either by representing American manufactures, utilizing American products, or through joint venture arrangements. To support these objectives, interns will assist in office analyses information on the Italian market, facilitation of contacts with Italian businesses, promotion of US products in the Italian marketplace, and advocation of US business interests.
Interns assist our commercial specialists and assistants by:
Collecting and analyzing information for market research reports for trade delegations and/or American companies on entry or expansion into Italy; including potential business partners, trade data, and in country promotions
Assisting companies seeking information
Supporting the commercial specialists/assistants in organizing trade missions
Supporting the commercial specialists/assistants in organizing and participating in commercial events
In order to participate in this program, you must meet the following qualifications:
Enrollment in an Italian University
Fluency in both Italian and English
Availability for at least 3 months (35 hr/week)
Good communication, writing and computer skills
Insurance for workplace accidents must be completed by the University
Students of Business Administration, Business Management, International Trade, Business Information Management, International Relations, Economics, Engineering, Law and Languages will benefit most from an internship at the Commercial Service
Only curricular internships may be accepted, with or without credits
Selection is made without regard to considerations of race, color, religion, sex, marital status, or handicap. Every intern has to pass the U.S. Government background check and must receive a positive clearance (detailed personal information for a security check has to be provided by the selected candidate).
This internship is a volunteer service. Federal regulations prohibit financial compensation. An official letter of recommendation will be provided. Most universities will award 3-6 credits for a completed internship.
No Federal Government liability is assumed. Students are responsible for their own health and life insurance.

Resume: Future goals, computer skills, past experience, including academic accomplishments, citizenship, and student status with a photo
For your planning
The internship will last at least 3 months. Starting dates are flexible. Remember to plan up to 2 months ahead until your security check is completed (including a personal interview with an official security officer). Your work time will be Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with one-hour lunch time. Our offices are closed on official Italian and American holidays.
