NEMA RECRUITING Strengthens U.S. Leadership in $250b Advanced MANUFACTURING Industry
ITA and NEMA Help U.S. Firms Have a Say in Standards
U.S. firms can find navigating the international standards development process to be challenging. Most do not know where to start. ITA’s financial and technical assistance to the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) through the Market Development Cooperator Program (MDCP) ensures that NEMA has the resources to recruit the right experts for the appropriate technical committees.
The technical committees that the 30 NEMA recruits are now participating in are writing standards that affect annual worldwide sales of $250 billion in industrial automation technology. NEMA is doing its part. It recruited 30 U.S. technical experts from companies like Rockwell Automation, Emerson, Exida, and Phoenix Contact on topics ranging from low-voltage switch gear to the safety of rotating machinery.
To remain competitive, manufacturers rely increasingly on automation, industrial controls, robotics, and artificial intelligence. Agreement on international standards allows designers of advanced manufacturing technology to agree on component compatibility, safety, and other factors. Robust U.S. industry participation helps ensure science-based, market-driven international standards to eliminate trade barriers and boost U.S. competitiveness.
