Let’s say you produce and sell goods here in the U.S. Over the past year or so, you have been noticing a drop in sales and hearing from customers that your prices are not competitive with lower priced imports. Does it seem like these imports are being sold at unusually low prices?

Foreign governments often give unfair tax breaks, interest-free loans, and other benefits to their exporting industries. Some foreign exporters also dump their goods in the United States at unrealistically low prices. These tactics give foreign producers an unfair advantage in the U.S. market and harm the competitiveness of domestic producers.

U.S. law authorizes the United States government to take action against this kind of harmful trade to ensure a level playing field for U.S. industries. These agreements and laws are designed to help you, and your company address unfairly traded products. If you believe that foreign producers are being subsidized or are dumping products in the U.S. market, the experts in the International Trade Administration are here to help. ITA’s team of experts can assist you in taking action against unfairly traded imports that harm your industry.

We can help you in several ways. We can help you understand how the U.S. trade laws work. We can identify for you the tools available to take action against unfair imports. We can provide you with import data to help identify market trends. We can explain how to get an investigation started into the pricing practices and/or subsidies received by foreign producers. And we can guide you through the process of preparing a petition for relief from your foreign competitors’ unfairly priced goods.

These services are provided free of charge and are strictly confidential, so you can rest assured that your own business information will never be disclosed. Once all the initiation requirements are met, the U.S. government will conduct an in-depth investigation of the foreign pricing and subsidy practices. Once a petition is filed with ITA, you could receive relief in as soon as 6 months. In recent years, ITA’s experts have counseled a wide variety of industries and assisted hundreds of small and medium sized businesses in addressing unfair trade.

With ITA by your side every step of the way, your company will be able to confidently evaluate next steps to address your unique situation. If you think your U.S. business has been harmed by unfairly traded imports or if you like more information, please contact ITA’s petition counseling staff today at 202-482-1255 or email us at petition.counseling@trade.gov.

Global Business Navigator Chatbot Beta

Welcome to the Global Business Navigator, an artificial intelligence (AI) Chatbot from the International Trade Administration (ITA). This tool, currently in beta version testing, is designed to provide general information on the exporting process and the resources available to assist new and experienced U.S. exporters. The Chatbot, developed using Microsoft’s Azure AI services, is trained on ITA’s export-related content and aims to quickly get users the information they need. The Chatbot is intended to make the benefits of exporting more accessible by understanding non-expert language, idiomatic expressions, and foreign languages.

Limitations

As a beta product, the Chatbot is currently being tested and its responses may occasionally produce inaccurate or incomplete information. The Chatbot is trained to decline out of scope or inappropriate requests. The Chatbot’s knowledge is limited to the public information on the Export Solutions web pages of Trade.gov, which covers a wide range of topics on exporting. While it cannot provide responses specific to a company’s product or a specific foreign market, its reference pages will guide you to other relevant government resources and market research. Always double-check the Chatbot’s responses using the provided references or by visiting the Export Solutions web pages on Trade.gov. Do not use its responses as legal or professional advice. Inaccurate advice from the Chatbot would not be a defense to violating any export rules or regulations.

Privacy

The Chatbot does not collect information about users and does not use the contents of users’ chat history to learn new information. All feedback is anonymous. Please do not enter personally identifiable information (PII), sensitive, or proprietary information into the Chatbot. Your conversations will not be connected to other interactions or accounts with ITA. Conversations with the Chatbot may be reviewed to help ITA improve the tool and address harmful, illegal, or otherwise inappropriate questions.

Translation

The Chatbot supports a wide range of languages. Because the Chatbot is trained in English and responses are translated, you should verify the translation. For example, the Chatbot may have difficulty with acronyms, abbreviations, and nuances in a language other than English.
