Vietnam Opens 6 GHz Spectrum for Wi-Fi
On March 31, 2025, Vietnam’s Ministry of Information and Communications (now part of the Ministry of Science and Technology) issued Circular 01/2025/TT-BKHCN, opening the lower 6 GHz band (5925-6425 MHz) for license-exempt wireless local area network (WLAN) use. The regulation took effect on May 15, 2025, and represents a significant expansion of available spectrum for Wi-Fi and other license-exempt technologies. The spectrum opening creates immediate opportunities for hardware manufacturers, software solution providers, and managed services companies, with particular growth in enterprise-class Wi-Fi networks supporting remote operations and customer engagement applications. U.S. companies in the wireless networking industry are well-positioned to capitalize on this opportunity due to their technological leadership in Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 equipment, advanced network management software, and comprehensive cybersecurity solutions. The United States currently exports $768 million in networking equipment and wireless devices to Vietnam’s $6.9 billion market, which is expected to exceed $27 billion over the next four years.
This growth is driven by increasing internet penetration, digital transformation initiatives, and rising demand for high-speed wireless connectivity across enterprises, educational institutions, and healthcare facilities. High demand exists for both indoor and outdoor deployments, presenting significant market opportunities for U.S. technology providers.
