Vietnam Data Centers
Vietnam’s rapidly expanding data center market creates strong commercial opportunities for U.S. suppliers of infrastructure equipment, software, and related services. Regulatory reforms allowing 100% foreign ownership of data centers, combined with new domestic data storage requirements, make Vietnam one of the most attractive emerging markets in Asia for U.S. firms seeking entry or expansion.
A recent report by Statista, a global business intelligence platform, shows that Vietnam’s data center market revenue is projected to reach approximately $2.2 billion in 2025. The market is forecast to grow at an annual rate of approximately 3.7% from 2025 to 2029, and reach roughly $2.6 billion by 2029. Market growth is driven by both regulatory and technological factors.
From the regulatory perspective, the Vietnam Telecommunications Law, which came into effect in July 2024, allows a foreign company to fully own and operate a data center. This encourages foreign companies to invest in developing and operating data centers in Vietnam. In addition, local data storage requirements set by Vietnam’s Personal Data Protection Law, which was ratified by its National Assembly in June 2025 and will take effect in January 2026, are expected to increase demand for data storage services provided by data center operators. Further, both the public and private sectors in Vietnam are undergoing rapid digital transformation thanks to Vietnam’s National Digital Transformation Program, creating increased demand for data storage and disaster recovery services.
Technical Drivers of Growth
Vietnam is enhancing its subsea cable capacity, with plans to deploy 10 submarine internet cables by 2030. In a bid to expand its domestic internet connectivity, Vietnam’s Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) announced plans to install a new terrestrial fiber-optic cable connecting Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, and Singapore (2-12 terabits per second) in mid-July 2025. In addition, telecom developers and operators are also exploring options to build decentralized, low-latency data centers in second-tier cities, to cater to growing demand for edge computing in support of Internet of Things, 5G, and Smart Cities.
A recent report by Vietnam MOST shows 41 active data centers with a total power capacity of 221MW. There are currently 12 data center investors:
- Viettel IDC
- VNPT
- FPT Telecom
- CMC Telecom
- NTT DATA
- ST Telemedia Global Data Centres
- Edge Centres
- Hanoi Telecom
- VNTT
- Epsilon Telecommunications
- Gaw Capital
- Infracrowd Capital

Best Prospects for U.S. Exporters
The rapid growth of data centers in Vietnam offers significant commercial potential for U.S. suppliers of infrastructure equipment, software, and related services. Specifically:
Infrastructure equipment
- Servers, storage, and rack equipment.
- Enclosures & cabling solutions: including rack enclosures and modular data center systems.
- Networking and remote management equipment: including switching, routing, interconnect equipment, console, and remote management servers.
- Industrial and power systems: including backup power generators, cooling pumps, and fluid control systems.
Software
- Data center infrastructure management and asset management.
- Observability and infrastructure monitoring.
- Automation, migration, and hybrid cloud management.
- Storage and cloud data management.
U.S. companies interested in marketing and supplying their equipment and software to data center investors and operators in Vietnam are advised to do the following:
- Find the right local partners, who can include data center contractors. A few well-known data center contractors include Aurecon, Apave, Delta Group, and GreenViet.
- Conduct sufficient due diligence on prospective partners.
- Connect with your local U.S. Export Assistance Center in the United States to schedule a counseling session on how U.S. Commercial Service can facilitate U.S. exports.
