Uruguay Hydroelectric Project

In May 2019, the binational Salto Grande Hydroelectric plant (Argentina/Uruguay) started an IDB-funded modernization and renovation project.  This three-stage project will be developed over 30 years with the $80 million, first stage reaching completion in 2023.

The Salto Grande planning commission is planning the $150 million, second stage for this project and will release six new tenders starting in mid-2023.  These six tenders will cover 85% of the work to be completed in the second stage.

The tenders will include the entire renovation of four electrical substations ($60 million), electromechanical upgrades to pumps and generators ($30 million), the renovation of the control system including hardware and software upgrades ($15 million), consultancy services to support project planning and execution ($9 million) and two tenders for coastal maintenance and repair ($4.5 million each).

The Salto Grande commission interested in meeting international suppliers in the hydroelectric field that could be interested in these projects prior to the tenders being released in 2023.
