UK Quantum Technology Investment 2025-2026
On Monday 14 April 2025, the UK Government announced a new $160 million investment in quantum technology to support quantum research and transition to real-world impacts in the marketplace. This investment will help advance the UK’s role as a world-leader in quantum technologies and highlight the UK Government support for the sector.
Particular focus is given to the deployment of quantum technology to protect national financial security and deducting fraud, an issue that currently costs the UK economy an estimated $3.5 billion annually.
The $160 million investment will be distributed across institutions. $63 million will go to Innovate UK to aid the commercial deployment of quantum technologies and $30 million will go towards research at the National Quantum Computing Centre. The National Physical Laboratory will be allotted $16 million to support business using quantum technologies and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council will receive $32 to invest in 5 research hubs and training initiatives. Finally, $12 million will go towards Quantum Technology Career Acceleration Fellowship and $7 million towards early-career researchers through the Science and Technology Facilities Council.
The UK’s major investment in quantum technology opens significant strategic and commercial opportunities for U.S. companies with operations in the UK.
