UK Cybersecurity Industry Growth 2025
Cybersecurity is a core tenet of the UK Industrial Strategy, released in June 2025. The UK government announced it will support businesses in upgrading their cybersecurity, invest in digital skills, and prioritize cybersecurity cluster areas and startups.
The UK government has also announced the Cyber Growth Action Plan. Due by the end of summer, the plan will pinpoint specific areas of growth in cyber and will inform the forthcoming National Cyber Strategy. The identified sectors will be crucial for American or exporters to monitor.
Investment in cyber security will also increase in the coming years. Up to $14 million has been pledged for the CyberASAP program, converting cyber academic research into commercial businesses. A further $8 million will support SMEs and startups in the cyber space, helping scale operations and operate internationally.
These plans and investments build on an already strong cyber security sector in the UK. In 2024, the sector generated $17.8 billion in revenue and employed 67,300 people, demonstrating year-on-year growth. However, these new policies do follow various cyberattacks on British businesses, highlighting the need for improved cybersecurity infrastructure, creating opportunities for U.S. cyber tech companies looking at doing business in the UK.
U.S. companies are globally recognized for their innovative technology and strong after-sales support, giving them a competitive edge in the UK market. The UK is also a particularly attractive destination for U.S. businesses due to the shared language and similar business practices.
