Opportunities for U.S. Companies in Armenia and Azerbaijan

After 30 years of conflict, on Friday, August 8, the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan signed a peace framework, bilateral agreements, and a joint declaration with the United States negotiated by President Donald J. Trump. This historic meeting is a positive sign for U.S. commercial interests in the South Caucasus as opportunities in the logistics and transportation, digital, and energy sectors are prime for U.S. engagement.

Logistics and Transportation

American companies providing logistics, transportation, engineering, and other services should begin considering opportunities to participate in this major U.S.-led initiative. Railway projects represent some of the most immediate prospects. Both Armenia and Azerbaijan require rail lines, locomotives, and hopper cars to support the corridor’s operations.

Digital Corridors

In addition to traditional infrastructure projects, both Armenia and Azerbaijan have ambitious plans to expand their information and communications technology capabilities. These include data centers, supercomputers, AI infrastructure, and underground cable networks.

Opportunities for U.S. companies to build digital infrastructure connecting Armenia and Azerbaijan through fiber optic cables, electricity transmission lines, and modern mobile networks are increasing as plans for TRIPP become more detailed.

Türkiye’s role as a regional telecom and internet hub provides an entry point for U.S. firms to collaborate on cross-border digital connectivity, linking Turkish, Armenian, and Azerbaijani markets and strengthening secure data flows across the South Caucasus.

Energy

While there is no direct energy connection or cooperation between Armenia and Azerbaijan, TRIPP could open the door to future projects. For example, gas pipelines could be built through southern Armenia, linking Armenia to regional energy markets as part of the Southern Gas Corridor - a strategic energy supply route integral to U.S. national economic security.

Strategic Importance of TRIPP

The successful buildout of TRIPP will:

  • Promote market access through trade facilitation and harmonized regulations that lower costs for exporters

  • Drive private sector engagement via stronger collaboration between regional business councils to link U.S. companies with actionable projects in logistics, energy services, agribusiness, and digital trade and

  • Build technical capacity for customs modernization, e-commerce integration, and renewable energy deployment—fields where U.S. expertise is globally competitive.

U.S. companies are encouraged to submit any TRIPP concept papers or preliminary project proposals to Foreign Commercial Service Officer Jimmy Church in Ankara, Türkiye, and International Trade Specialists/Advisors Leo Ayala and Evan Johnson in the Department of Commerce’s Office of Russia, Ukraine & Eurasia.
