Singapore Supply Chain and Logistics
Singapore remains one of the world’s leading supply chain and logistics hubs and serves as a strategic gateway to the ASEAN market of more than 650 million people. Its location along major global shipping routes, combined with world-class port and air connectivity, strong regulatory transparency, and advanced infrastructure, makes Singapore an attractive base for U.S. companies seeking regional expansion across logistics, advanced manufacturing, semiconductors and electronics, pharmaceuticals and cold chain, e-commerce and fulfillment, and digital supply chain solutions.
In 2024, Singapore recorded approximately $1 trillion in merchandise trade and $800 billion in services trade. Key sectors driving logistics demand include electronics and semiconductors, chemicals and petrochemicals, biomedical and pharmaceutical products, advanced manufacturing, and e-commerce. Efficient customs processes and business-friendly environment continue to attract multinational corporations seeking resilient and reliable supply chain operations.
A major pillar of Singapore’s logistics strategy is the development of the Tuas Mega Port by PSA International. Scheduled for full completion in the 2040s, Tuas Port will become the world’s largest fully automated container terminal with a capacity of 65 million TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) annually. The port will consolidate Singapore’s container operations into one high-tech facility supported by automation, AI, and smart logistics systems, improving efficiency, reducing turnaround times, and strengthening regional supply chain resilience.
Singapore is now Southeast Asia’s largest air cargo hub, with almost 7,000 weekly flights operated by nearly 100 carriers. The new Airport Logistics Park of Singapore will increase annual air cargo capacity from 3 million tonnes to more than 5 million tonnes, supporting growing demand in e-commerce and specialized cargo sectors such as pharmaceuticals, biologics, semiconductors, and medical devices. Additionally, the new PSA Supply Chain Hub, expected to be completed by 2027, will further enhance Singapore’s capabilities in handling high-value and temperature-sensitive products.
Digitalization is another key priority in Singapore’s supply chain development. The government’s Networked Trade Platform (NTP) digitizes trade documentation and connects shippers, customs authorities, freight forwarders, banks, and logistics providers. Singapore is also investing heavily in smart logistics technologies such as AI-driven analytics, IoT-enabled tracking systems, autonomous vehicles, warehouse automation, and predictive maintenance solutions. These initiatives create opportunities for U.S. companies offering supply chain software, logistics automation, cybersecurity, robotics, and digital trade technologies.
Singapore’s extensive network of Free Trade Agreements (FTA) provides businesses with preferential access to markets representing more than 85 percent of global GDP. Recent agreements such as the Pacific Alliance-Singapore FTA and the Mercosur-Singapore FTA are expected to strengthen trade links with Latin America, while ASEAN-related agreements continue to facilitate market access across Southeast Asia.
