Singapore Nuclear Energy

Singapore’s growing interest in advanced nuclear technologies could create significant long-term opportunities for U.S. companies in reactor development, engineering, safety, workforce training, fuel-cycle management, and project advisory services. Although Singapore has not fully committed to nuclear energy, they are investing approximately $115 million in the Singapore Nuclear Research and Safety Initiative and a planned 2027 Phase 1 review under the International Atomic Energy Agency’s infrastructure review process as part of its broader energy resilience and transition goals.

•    Fusion: Singapore is beginning to explore the commercial potential of fusion technology. In May 2026, it signed a five-year agreement with Commonwealth Fusion Systems—the world’s largest fusion energy company, based in the United States. More than 50 fusion companies worldwide, roughly half of them U.S.-based, are racing to develop commercialized plants, build supply chains, and train the talent needed over the next decade.

•    Fission: Singapore is assessing various fission technologies, particularly small modular reactors (SMRs). The 123 Agreement with the United States grants Singapore access to American SMR research. Singapore has also formed research partnerships with several U.S. National Laboratories and Battelle and has commissioned the United Kingdom’s Mott MacDonald for a two-year evaluation of advanced nuclear reactor technologies.
