Singapore Healthcare Peritoneal Dialysis Market

Singapore’s Ministry of Health (MOH) has identified the need to expand Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) adoption as part of its long-term care strategy for renal patients.  This policy effort, supported by charities such as the National Kidney Foundation (NKF), will focus on increasing the adoption of home-based dialysis and reducing the reliance on dialysis center infrastructure.  This presents a policy-backed opportunity for U.S. companies who operate in the PD space, manufacture consumables or provide digital health infrastructure to support its adoption.

On average, 5.5 patients are diagnosed daily with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) in Singapore, and it is projected that by 2035, about 25% of Singapore’s residents aged 21 and above are expected to have chronic kidney disease.  According to the United States Renal Data System Annual Report 2025, Singapore reported a high incidence of treated ESRD, at 401 per million population (pmp) for the 2023 data year.  Singapore consistently ranks among the highest in the world for new ESRD cases, particularly those induced by diabetes.

Despite strong clinical suitability, PD remains undersubscribed in Singapore with only 8% of dialysis patients opting for it.  There are approximately 9,000 dialysis patients in the country currently, and the NKF reports that $300 million is spent annually on dialysis. Singapore’s goal is for 30% of new dialysis patients to choose PD by 2027, and recent MOH- and NKF-aligned initiatives are supporting that objective.  Cost comparisons have shown that PD is generally lower cost than hemodialysis and it also reduces dependence on dialysis infrastructure.

Singapore’s PD adoption and expansion strategy also positions it as a reference site for home dialysis innovation in the ASEAN region with scalable implications for those countries with growing ESRD burdens.
