Poland Defense Aegis Ashore system base in Redzikowo handed over to U.S. Navy

On December 15, the Aegis Ashore missile defense system in Redzikowo was handed over to the U.S. Navy, announced the command of U.S. Naval Forces in Europe.  According to the command located in Naples (Italy), it took over ownership of the base from the Missile Defense Agency, which supervised the construction of the facility.  The installation will enter a planned maintenance period to upgrade the network and computer systems, after which it will be a fully integrated and tested element of the U.S. missile defense system, and in the spring or summer of 2024, it will be officially transferred to NATO command.

The Aegis Ashore system in Redzikowo is a critical part of the European Phased Adaptive Approach (EPAA), which protects European Allies and partners against ballistic missile threats emanating from outside the Euro-Atlantic area. EPAA integrates the missile defense systems of forward deployed U.S. Navy destroyers in Rota, Spain with the Aegis capabilities in Deveselu, Romania and, once fully operational, AAMDS Poland in Redzikowo to provide comprehensive defense across Europe against ballistic missile attacks.

This base will bring new long-term opportunities for U.S. defense and related companies in areas like additional defense equipment, services, maintenance, and others. U.S. defense industry firms are well-positioned to compete in Poland’s defense sector due to their innovative and reliable technologies, product and system engineering and consulting expertise, and strong after-sale service and training.

The base is a tangible demonstration of the U.S. commitment to collective security in Europe.  Poland is a vital ally, partner, and friend of the United States and security is a fundamental pillar of the U.S.-Poland bilateral relationship.
