New Zealand Agricultural Equipment

Agriculture is New Zealand’s biggest industry generating approximately 70% of New Zealand’s merchandise export earnings and 12% of Gross Domestic Product. New Zealand is one of the largest global exporters of dairy commodities and also exports large volumes of beef and sheep meat, wool, fruit, vegetables, and wine.

Fluctuations in global commodity prices combined with farming confidence are intrinsically linked to the country’s demand for agricultural equipment and supplies. New Zealand farmers are constantly seeking to improve farm productivity, so having an innovative offering is key to successfully entering the New Zealand market

The United States is a key supplier of farm equipment and an important source for new, innovative equipment. New Zealand’s big-ticket imports from the United States are mowers and large tractors (100-hp and up), center-pivot irrigation systems, and agricultural implements. In 2021, U.S. exports of agriculture equipment totaled US$95 million (a return to 2017 levels). In 2022, overall agriculture equipment sales are expected to flatten as farmers this year face rising farm costs, labor costs, interest rates, and a number of adverse weather events.
