Mexico Taxpayer Advocate Service

The Attorney General’s role is to resolve audits and import compliance complaints, among other matters. This appointment is welcome news for U.S. businesses with Mexican clients or partners.

In the last three years, CS Mexico has noticed a significant increase in customs audits by both federal and state tax authorities in Mexico. Maquiladoras/IMMEX companies, many of which have U.S. headquarters, are among those being audited and receiving high-value tax assessments, amounting to several million dollars. For these cases, PRODECON could serve as a mediator to resolve such disputes in an impartial manner.

PRODECON is an autonomous entity in Mexico established to protect taxpayers’ rights, promote transparency, and advocate for a fair tax system. The organization operates independently from the Mexican tax authority (SAT) and aims to provide taxpayers, including U.S. exporters, with a reliable and impartial source of assistance for taxation matters.

Understanding tax regulations and procedures in Mexico can help U.S. companies navigate potential challenges and ensure compliance, ultimately strengthening a company’s reputation as a reliable and knowledgeable partner with its Mexican counterparts.

The U.S. Commercial Service in Mexico can assist U.S. exporters in resolving customs-related issues. PRODECON Official website:  https://www.gob.mx/prodecon/en
