Kuwait Power Transmission Grid Expansion
Kuwait is modernizing its power transmission network to meet rising electricity demand and support renewable energy integration. On May 30, 2026, the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy (MEWRE) announced its plans to expand the country’s electricity transmission network with the installation of 31 transformer substations during the current fiscal year (ends March 31, 2027). This project includes high-voltage and extra-high-voltage upgrades to improve Kuwait’s grid reliability, support expanding residential development, and strengthen regional energy connectivity.
In November 2024, MEWRE announced a plan to invest $16 billion to add 17,350 megawatts of power generation capacity by 2030, with 30 percent additional capacity sourced from renewable energy. In parallel, Kuwait is pursuing comprehensive transmission network expansion, major grid upgrades, and regional interconnection projects. These initiatives present U.S. export opportunities and will help Kuwait improve grid reliability.
