Kuwait Energy Thermal Power Projects

On April 17, 2025, Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy (MEWRE) announced that the Central Agency for Public Tenders (CAPT) approved tenders for the supply, installation, and operation of combined-cycle gas turbines (CCGT) to expand the Al-Subiya Power Station capacity by 900 megawatts.  The $850 million project is slated for completion within the next three years.  Kuwait’s adoption of CCGT technology aligns with its national goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions in the oil and gas sector by 2050, and all other sectors by 2060.

Kuwait has experienced a growing power shortage over the past two years.  In June 2024, the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy scheduled power outages in 40 residential areas to manage peak demand.  Kuwait’s power shortages continue to rise (currently 1,600 megawatts to 5,600 megawatts by 2029).  To address these issues, Kuwait is accelerating initiatives to maintain electricity generation units, modernize power grid, implement renewable energy projects, upgrade and expand power stations, and introduce independent power supplier projects.

Opportunities:
•    Combined-Cycle Gas Turbines (CCGT)
•    Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS)
•    Gas Oil Tanks
•    Electrical Grid
