Guatemala Energy Utility-Scale Solar Plus Storage

Guatemala’s power system is entering a new phase in which utility-scale solar generation paired with battery energy storage systems (BESS) will play an increasing role in meeting long term electricity demand and improving grid reliability. The recent PEG-5 2025 tender, which will secure power supply from 2030 for up to 15 years, is driving strong interest in hybrid solar-plus-storage projects among local and international developers. As a result, project sponsors are actively seeking experienced partners capable of delivering high-performance, turnkey BESS solutions, creating a clear entry point for U.S. companies with expertise in system integration, grid-forming and grid-following inverters, bidirectional power conversion technologies, and engineering for high-temperature and remote environments.

U.S. firms can bring strong value to this market by ensuring reliable system performance, providing advanced grid services such as frequency response, voltage support, and ramp rate control, and supporting compliance with local technical standards over the life of power purchase agreements. At the same time, Guatemala remains a highly price-driven market, where cost competitiveness is a key factor in project selection. As such, companies that can combine proven technology and performance with pricing aligned to local market conditions will be best positioned to secure partnerships and take advantage of early-mover opportunities in the country’s growing solar-plus storage segment.
