Guatemala Airport PPP Oportunity

A proposal to streamline a public-private partnership (PPP) at La Aurora Airport in Guatemala, the main airport in the country, aims to address issues that have hindered the airport’s growth. The initiative seeks to tackle inadequate infrastructure, lack of investment, and poor management practices that have limited the airport’s capacity and competitiveness.

The challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic on the aviation industry have severely impacted air travel demand and revenue for airlines and airports worldwide but have also presented an opportunity for the industry to rethink its business models and operational strategies.

This PPP project will leverage private sector expertise to improve the airport’s infrastructure, operations, and management practices. The government and private sector collaboration would involve identifying and implementing solutions, with the private sector providing funding, technology, and expertise.

Through this partnership, the airport seeks to enhance facilities, modernize technology systems, and improve operational efficiency, attracting more airlines and passengers while creating new job opportunities and stimulating economic growth. The success of the proposed public-private partnership would depend on several factors. These include the ability of the government and private sector to work together effectively, the availability of funding and resources, and the implementation of effective management practices to ensure the long-term sustainability of the airport.

FCS Guatemala will report on upcoming tender opportunities and provide information on this PPP opportunity for interested U.S. companies,as they become available. We will also continue advocating for PPPs alongside the Department of State, as Guatemala’s State dependencies have limited budgets, and the U.S. Government supports this contract approach for crucial infrastructure projects.
