Data Privacy Seal
In December 2025, Ghana’s Data Protection Commission (DPC) launched the DPC Privacy Seal, a visible certification with a scannable QR code, to show that organizations are compliant with Ghana’s data protection laws (Act 843). (Please note that, simultaneous with the launch of this seal, Ghana is revising its data protection legal framework. It published an early draft for stakeholder consultation in October 2025, which is subject to further revisions. It can be found here.)
The Data Privacy Seal is intended to help citizens verify an organization’s legitimacy and ensure their data is handled responsibly. It encourages accountability by providing a tangible trust mark for registered entities, promoting digital trust in Ghana’s growing digital economy. Enforcement begins nationwide in January 2026, and the Data Protection Commission is urging organizations to regularize compliance by December 31, 2025.
Data Protection Requirements
Ghana’s data protection requirements apply to a wide range of economic operators and include sector-specific requirements. There are fines and penalties for any breaches of the law.
There are various tiers of operators and various seals depending upon the level of sensitivity of the data the operator holds. There are fees to apply for the seal.
