Côte d’Ivoire Rail Project: The Abidjan–Korhogo Corridor
Opportunity to participate in Côte d’Ivoire’s $6 billion Abidjan-Korhogo rail interconnection project through PPPs.
Côte d’Ivoire is moving forward with the Abidjan–Korhogo rail interconnection project, a major national initiative to link the country’s key economic centers over a distance of approximately 520–530 km. Led by the Ministry of Transport in coordination with AMUGA (the Greater Abidjan Urban Mobility Authority responsible for urban transport planning and governance) and BNETD (the National Bureau of Technical Studies and Development, the state’s principal technical and engineering advisory body), the project includes preliminary studies for two development scenarios: a high-speed rail (TGV) option and a regional express rail (LER) option. Depending on the selected variant, total investment requirements are estimated between 5.8 billion and 6.6 billion USD.
The project is a central component of Côte d’Ivoire’s long-term strategy to modernize transport infrastructure, strengthen national and regional connectivity, and stimulate balanced economic development. It aims to provide a safe and efficient alternative to road transport, reduce congestion and accident rates, lower environmental impacts, and support the growth of new development corridors along the route.
For U.S. companies, the initiative presents substantial opportunities to engage through public-private partnerships across rail engineering, construction, signaling systems, rolling stock, financing, and project management. The government has expressed a strong interest in international participation to help realize this transformative infrastructure investment.
