Canada Border Security
Public Safety Canada, Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) are the security forces responsible for maintaining Canadian public safety and procuring sufficient, up-to-date security and surveillance measures.
Public Safety Canada is the official federal department that oversees public safety, national security and emergency management and preparedness. CBSA is Canada’s federal law enforcement agency responsible for border, immigration and customs enforcement. The RCMP serves as the national police service, providing policing services in 11 provinces and over 150 communities.
Through the procurement of new law enforcement tools that improve operational efficiency and information sharing capabilities, the Canadian government will be better positioned to respond to current and future security threats.
To support this initiative, the Canadian government has committed $1.3 billion to modernize and strengthen its border. Specifically, Canada’s new border plan is centered on five national security pillars:
- Detecting and disrupting the illegal fentanyl trade
- Introducing significant new tools for law enforcement
- Improving operational coordination
- Expanding information sharing
- Minimizing unnecessary border immigration volumes
Moreover, the federal government has also recently invested in border surveillance equipment like drones, towers, and helicopters.
