Brazil Defense Opportunities

President Lula’s new Growth Acceleration Program (PAC) includes approximately US$ 10.4 billion for research, development, and acquisition of large equipment for the Brazilian Armed Forces over the next three years. The main goal of the investment is to provide state-of-the-art technology while increasing the Brazil’s national defense capacity and border monitoring security.

The projects included on the PAC program will support deforestation command and control activities, encourage innovation and new technologies through the development of the Brazil’s domestic value chain and production of national technology. The ultimate goal is strengthening Brazil’s defense industrial base. It will also focus on investments for air, naval and land equipment and integrating systems. Among the investments envisioned are the acquisition of cargo aircraft, Gripen fighters, light and medium-sized helicopters, construction of submarines and patrol ships, armored vehicles, and implementation of border strip control systems.

There are several business opportunities for U.S. suppliers to work with Brazilian companies in these Novo PAC projects. If you are interested in learning more about these business opportunities, please contact the defense trade specialist Daniele Andrews at Daniele.andrews@trade.gov
